Reign in Blood Cakes

Can you think of a better way to kick off this Metalcakes blog then by honoring the greatest metal band of all time?
I can't.

Therefore I give you...

Slayer: Reign in Blood Cakes

Makes 24

Photobucket Metal Constituents:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the filling:
  • 1 package cream cheese (8oz.), room temperature
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • red food coloring
For the frosting:
  • 2 1/2 sticks butter, room temperature
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 Tablespoons heavy cream

Photobucket Merciless Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line 24 muffin cups with paper liners.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa, salt and baking soda.
  3. Stir in oil, water, vinegar and vanilla until blended.
  4. Pour mixture into prepared muffin cups, filling each 2/3 full.
  5. To make the filling: In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, egg, sugar and salt until light and fluffy.
  6. Drip several drops of red food coloring until desired, brutal, blood-red shade is achieved.
  7. Drop a heaping teaspoonful of the cream cheese mixture on top of each batter-filled baking cup.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of one cupcake comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Visit Slayer.net while allowing cakes to cool.
  11. To make the frosting: In the bowl of an electric mixer, whisk butter until smooth.
  12. Add powdered sugar and salt.
  13. Continue to whisk for about another minute.
  14. Add vanilla and heavy cream, whisk until well combined.
  15. Increase mixer speed and beat until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  16. Frost completely cooled cupcakes. I topped mine with red sanding sugar and red spray food coloring.
  17. Enjoy while trapped in purgatory.

Enjoy!

This is perfect! I am going to try to make the Reign in Blood cakes sometime soon. I am also going to be playing the Tori Amos cover for inspiration while I bake.
